checking Hardware Requirements

Skipping all the basic information i'll get straight to checking the hardware requirements,

To make this snappy i'll tell you that, you can skip reading and following these simple steps by using Microsoft's upgrade advisor tool which does all the work in the click of a button and tells you if your system is capable of running the Windows 7 operating System or not.

I still urge you to read on unless you want to miss out on something useful and informative ^_^

Again we go in steps, (just to make it easier to follow)
  • First off, lets get some information about the computer we're using,
    • Right click on your 'My Computer' icon and select properties from the list that drops-down. (This applies for Windows XP, Vista and 7 maybe also for the great great grand-parents too)
    • Now here are the details to take note off,
      • CPU Type
      • CPU Speed
      • System Type
      • RAM
      • Hard-Disk storage space capacity
    • Next to get size of video memory,
      • open the 'run'  dialog (windows key + R)
      • type "dxdiag" and hit the return/enter key
      • go to the 'display' tab and look for "Approx. Total Memory"
      • Bingo! we got all the data. Lets  get to the final task of  "checking".
  • Second off, lets see if our hardware have the capability to handle the Windows 7 operating system  and deliver a smooth performance.
    • Any CPU that has been released after the Intel's Pentium Processor will work. (applies for AMD and others too)
    • The CPU Speed must be 1GHz or more. (I would say 'ok' 900MHz+)
    • Depending on your System Type,
      • For a 32bit system,
        • 1GB of RAM
        • 16GB of hard disk space
      • For a 64bit system,
        • 2GB of RAM
        • 20GB of hard disk space
    • Finally, you will need a DirectX9 compatible graphics device, meaning you should have a minimum of 128MB video memory that are capable of running DirectX version 9 or higher.

Read My First Post, in case you missed it

You can get Windows 7 in 2 ways,
  • If you are having plans of buying a new computer system, be it a laptop or desktop or netbook, then the Windows 7 operating system must be pre-installed in most cases. Check with your vendor/manufacturer to confirm it.
  • If you already own a computer and only need the Windows 7 software package then you can buy it off at the Microsoft's Online Store with free shipping or from a Local Retailer.
    • Christmas is approaching soon, so hold on till then for some good discounts.
    • You can also keep an eye out for discount coupons. Just google something like "Microsoft Windows 7 coupons" or "Microsoft Store coupons".
There are a lot of spam sites under the cover of "Store Coupons" so please double-check the site before clicking on the "Activate Coupon" button. And don't give away your billing details to any site other than the one you are buying from that is Microsoft for us now.
